Our state-of-the-art exam uses a 4-point criteria system to detect underlying Structural Shifts in the spine. Quite often a Structural Shift will lead to your “symptoms”- or what we refer to as Secondary Conditions.

Neuro-Structural vs Conventional

Conventional Chiropractors focus on manipulating the spine in an effort to increase range of motion, decrease muscle spasm, and temporarily reduce pain. There are lots of conventional chiropractors in the area, and most of them are excellent at what they do! Traditional chiropractic care falls under the umbrella category of symptom relief or symptom management.

As a doctor focusing on Neuro-Structural Correction, We look for the presence of Structural Shifts in your spine. Structural Shifts are obstructions in the spine that are typically the underlying cause of many
Secondary Condtions or what most refer to as….symptoms.

Within healthcare there are various accepted normal ranges used diagnostically. For example, everything from weight, blood pressure, heart rate, to thyroid levels can be identified and compared to an accepted standard, in order to necessitate and determine a course of treatment.

Neuro-Structural chiropractic care follows the same approach in identifying deficiencies and issues; by utilizing engineering concepts with a foundational viewpoint, and then comparing to a well-researched, accepted normal. This allows for precise measuring of the severity of an issue, allows for accurate correction of the problem, and pre and post measures; which achieve visible, and tangible results.

Of course we recognize, our approach isn't the best fit for everyone and we don't expect anyone to be absolutely perfect in their structure. That is why, our consultation is designed to determine whether or not Neuro-Structural correction is a good fit for your needs.

What is a Structural Shift?

At Premier Chiropractic, our focus is Neuro-Structural Correction and we focus exclusively on the correction of the Primary Condition or underlying cause – Structural Shifts.

Think of your spine as the foundation for a building. If your house was not sitting properly on its foundation, would you expect the floors to creak, the walls to crack, and windows to work smoothly or not so smoothly? Now you can spend time patching all the secondary effects from the shift in the foundation, but you would be doing so with the expectation that in a short time the problems will have to be…..?

Now we don’t expect that everyone has 100% PERFECT STRUCTURAL ALIGNMENT

However, no different than normal blood pressure, normal vision, and normal heart rate, there is a range of what is acceptable and unacceptable when it comes to Normal Structural Spinal Alignment.

The body uses secondary conditions as warning indicators of a potentially more serious condition. A Structural Shift is just such a condition that may be the cause of your health problems. These shifts may initially cause muscle spasms because your foundation (the spine) loses its stability and strength.

If left uncorrected the ligaments eventually deform and the spine shifts enough to obstruct the nerves traveling down the spinal cord. Our office focuses on detecting and correcting these shifts so that the body can heal on its own and function the way it was designed to.

What are Secondary Condtions?

When a spinal structural shift is the primary condition, or root cause of your problem, it can create a number of secondary conditions (traditionally called symptoms).

However, the word symptoms often suggest that the solution for the problem is the addressing of symptoms versus correctly targeting the underlying issue—a spinal structural shift. Therefore, in Neuro-Structural chiropractic care, we use the term secondary conditions, and so focus on correcting your primary condition for lasting results.

With use of our state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and approach we can identify the precise location of your spine’s structural shift and where the nerves are being disrupted. This not only tells us valuable information about your secondary conditions but—more importantly—gives us a road map to providing you with a lasting correction.

Ultimately, the goal of our care is to direct your spine to what’s considered normal. By doing so, we relieve pressure on your ligaments, tendons, disc structure, and the nerve tissue that constitutes your spine. There are a wide variety of treatment options offered by both medical and alternative medicine practitioners. Most doctors are focused on pain and symptom relief (secondary conditions), and they do an excellent job. People often start with over the counter or prescription medication to temporarily reduce their pain.

If that doesn’t work, then courses of physical therapy/physiotherapy may be used to strengthen muscular weakness, address spasm, or increase mobility. Some individuals may elect for injection programs to temporarily reduce pain. In many cases when those other treatments don’t work out, more invasive procedures like surgery start to become an option.

All of these treatment programs are effective in the appropriate time and place and have different goals. Our goal at Premier Chiropractic is to restore the structural integrity of your spine in order to restore normal nervous system function.

The Neuro-Structural Chiropractic Examination is not only designed to detect Structural Shifts, but allows for a better understanding of “normal” and a complete understanding of the underlying cause of your condition.

Before your examination, you will be scheduled for a Patient Recommendation Conference where we will review your examination findings. If a structural shift is found we will make a recommendation for a plan of care that is specifically designed to address your condition.

***Please be prepared to dress appropriately for the examination. It is required that you have athletic/gym shorts available, and women should also come with a sports bra for accurate structural assessment.
